Jay Pharoah Impersonates 9 Comics In 3 Minutes

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m fascinated by the whole impersonation thing. How much time do these guys spend in-character with each voice to get it down? Do you live in that persons voice for weeks at a time like Daniel Day Lewis? Or is it just a natural “Once I hear it I can do it” kind of thing?

Quick little shoutout here to Jay Pharaoh. Sure we’ve seen him do most of these before. But to walk out on the Weekend Update stage, in front of however many people still watch SNL live these days, and rip off 9 A+ impersonations back-to-back-to-back is pretty remarkable stuff. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m fascinated by the whole impersonation thing. How much time do these guys spend in-character with each voice to get it down? Is it like a Daniel Day Lewis “live like this person for a week” thing? Or is it just a natural “Once I hear it I can do it” kind of thing? And how do you transition so seamlessly from one fake voice to a completely different one? I don’t know. I just think it’s one of the most impressive things in comedy when done at the level of guys like Pharaoh. He can jump to like 50 very different, very specific impersonations at the drop of the hate. Incredible when you really think about it.

Alright, it’s been a fun filler blog guys, back to work.
