LOS ANGELES, June 14, 2016  —  The Emmy®- and Golden Globe-winning comedy series CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, starring Larry David, will return to HBO for its ninth season, it was announced today by Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming. Details of the new season will be announced as they are confirmed.

“We’re thrilled that Larry has decided to do a new season of CURB and can’t wait to see what he has planned,” said Bloys.

Asked why he decided to come back, David said, “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’”

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM stars “Seinfeld” co-creator David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his life. With 80 episodes to date, the show is HBO’s longest-running scripted comedy or drama series. David also starred in and co-wrote the 2013 HBO Films presentation “Clear History.”

CURB BACK

Fuck to the absolute yes. Goddamn, what a day baby. What a fucking day. LD has been sitting on this season, these ideas, the jokes, everything, for like three years. Three years filling up that notebook with material. He had no obligation to do this season. Could’ve done movies and Broadway and whatever else he wanted for the rest of his life. Which means he’s so confident in this material… so confident he has ten episodes of comedy gold… that he’s willing to risk coming back.

Because make no mistake about it. He could have ended on Season 8. You could easily make the argument that Season 8 was the best yet. Palestinian Chicken, Social Assassin, Shit Bow, Juicing, Michael J Fox. Some ALL TIME Curb moments in Season 8. He walks out on Season 8, that’s a storybook ending. Yet he’s so sure that he’s got enough quality material that he’s willing to run it back. If that doesn’t get you excited, then the Youtube Clips I’ve been deep diving through the last 20 minutes will.

But first…

I’ve gone back and forth over the last 8 years or so on my favorite comedy show of all time. Seinfeld? Probably the GOAT, but I missed it live. South Park? Incredible how they’ve reinvented themselves and remained hilarious, but the social commentary aspect (which they do better than anyone in entertainment) has almost overshadowed the humor as of late. The Office? Always rewatchable, consistantly hilarious, but tailed off at the end. Chappelle? Possibly the highest peak, but too short lived. Arrested Development? Basically the same thing, and the whole Season 4 disaster doesn’t help. Parks & Rec? Criminally underrated, just not on the level of the best shows. Veep? Same thing. Silicon Valley? Has tons of potential, but it’s not quite there yet.

What it always comes down to though, is Always Sunny vs. Curb.

They’re at the top of my list. 1 and 1A, always flipping back and forth. Different in many ways, but both equally hilarious. Two shows that managed to remain hilarious – and in many ways get even funnier – deep into their runs. I just mentioned above how great Curb Season 8 was, and the same can be said for Sunny. Those guys just came off an absolutely hilarious redemption season–in Season ELEVEN–after a somewhat-weak (by their standards) season 10.

I’m always back and forth between the two. Any given night I might think one is better. Any maybe tomorrow I’ll go back to Sunny.

But after watching these clips… I gotta go back to Curb for the time being. This is just what I found in the last twenty minutes. Tip of the iceberg.

Prettyyy… Prettyyyyyyy… PRETTY EXCITED…
