Steph Back

To be completely honest, I’m not crazy about how early it is. But fuck it. STEPH BACK.

To be completely honest, I’m not crazy about this. I mean, I get it. Steph is competitive, he wants to be out there. If he feels right and wants to play, he’s gonna play. And while this game isn’t exactly a must-win for Golden State, they clearly understand the benefits of finishing this series by Wednesday. Spurs-Thunder is going 7, and those four additional days of rest are crucial.

But part of me thinks getting Steph fully healthy is just… more important. And I don’t think he is.

Because as well as he may be moving, and as hard as he can play in a three on three scrimmage, he’s still just two weeks removed from an injury that was supposed to be re-evaluated today. There’s just no way he’s 100%, and I don’t see it as worth the risk for a game the Warriors are absolutely going to win with or without him. Shit, even if you don’t see this game as a Warriors win, I’ll take the two extra days of recovery and a healthier Steph for games 5 and 6 than you’re getting now for games 4 and 5. One less game in a series you’re already going to win isn’t worth the risk of jeopardizing the health of Steph.

I don’t know, that’s just my opinion. For all I know, Steph is 100% tonight. Maybe he’s fully ready to chase Dame or CJ around the court. Maybe he’s so good for three quarters that he doesn’t have to play the fourth. Kerr is smart enough not to overplay him, and Steph is smart enough not to push it.

So fuck it, I’ll embrace it. I’m nervous, but I can’t deny that I’m excited to have Steph back in my basketball-watching life. It’s been too long.
