It’s a bummer to lose out on the best available coach in five years. But I’m sure things are going swell at Phil and Kurt’s Triangle Seminar Camp this week. Who needs a beautiful defensive mind when you have an incompetent twitter-porn-fetish puppet running an archaic offense that limits the potential of your only you promising players, right?

Look, is it a bummer to lose out on this guy…
… who is universally acknowledged as a top five NBA coach… who has transformed his defenses into elite units from his time with the Championship-winning Celtics through his five years with the Bulls… who has been dying to come to New York… who was an assistant here during the last period of sustained success for the franchise… who is one of the few coaches who seems to like and get along with our untradeable star player… who turned Jimmy Butler from a defensive specialist into an elite NBA player… who lost a league MVP on and off for five years and still brought his team to the playoffs…
Yeah, that sucks. But it’s not all bad. I mean, at least we have this guy, right?

*showers in gasoline*
Look, we knew this was coming. Phil was never hiring someone who 1) was from the Van Gundy camp, 2) is not a Phil/Triangle disciple, and 3) helps the Knicks organization in any conceivable way.
No matter how much sense it made to hire Thibs — and it made all the sense in the world — Phil would more quickly leave the job than hire someone outside of his camp. Phil’s singular goal as Team President of the New York Knicks is to prove that his way is the right way. The idea of someone succeeding through another system here is completely out of the question. And to pretend that he would hire Thibs was nothing short of delusional.
We knew this. We knew Thibs wasn’t coming. And yet this news still absolutely kills me. Somehow, no matter how prepared I was to see Thibs go elsewhere, I still can’t believe it. We just completely passed on one of the best free agent coaches EVER. No interview, no consideration, no nothing. And now we’re gonna rehire the single worst coach in the HISTORY of the NBA.
I hate you Phil Jackson. I hate you with the fire of a thousand suns. I hope all the bad things in life happen to you, and only you. And when you’re sitting in that stupid high chair, watching Kurt Rambis lose 60 games, and you can’t move without a splintering pain running down your old decrepit back, I want you to know that you deserve every last bit of that pain and more for what you’ve done to the New York Knicks. Fuck you.
